Beeley, Christopher A. Review of “Theology and Pastoral Leadership,” Anglican Theological Review 91, no. 1 (2009): 11-30, by Philip Caples, in The Baptist Journal for Theology and Ministry, 7, no. 1 (Spring 2010): 90-1.
Philip grew up in rural Mississippi. He became a Christian through the proclamation of the gospel under a godly man named Clarence Cooper, Sr. He worked on the family farm and in the corporate business world before the Lord called him to ministry.
Philip received his bachelor’s degree from Blue Mountain College and his M.Div. from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He then entered the Ph.D. program at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary where he studied New Testament. Before taking the qualifying exam, he understood the call of God specifically to complete his doctorate in the area of preaching and pastoral ministry where he completed the Th.M. degree. While completing his class work, he completed a book review for publication in The Baptist Journal for Theology and Ministry. He has also published an article in Deacon magazine, and he has two forth coming articles for publication in the fall. He is currently finishing his dissertation entitled "An Analysis of the Rhetorical Elements in Selected Homilies of John of Antioch (Chrysostom) in the Pauline Corpus."
Philip has served throughout Mississippi for over nineteen years as a pastor of both bi-vocational and multi-staff churches. He is currently a member at First Baptist Church Pineville, LA where he teaches and preaches as needed. He also serves as pulpit supply, transitional and interim pastor as needed throughout the states of Louisiana and Mississippi.
Caskey School of Divinity is Philip's first professorship, although he has served as an adjunct professor at the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.
Philip is married to Carolyn Joann and they have two children, Christopher and Justin. Christopher is married to the former Megan Melton and they have one child, Hayden Michael. Justin is married to Nicole Richmond. Both boys have accepted a call to ministry recently and each are praying about the direction that God has for his life.
