Biography:
Stewart was raised on the campus of Louisiana State University at Alexandria where his dad was an administrator. Because of his family’s active membership in the First Baptist Church of Lecompte, Stewart calls Lecompte home.

Stewart received his bachelor’s degree from Louisiana College (1998). At Louisiana College, Stewart was a member of the Chorale and several honor societies. He also served as president of the Christian Vocation Fellowship. While a student at Louisiana College, Stewart felt the Lord calling him to prepare for ministry as an adjunct professor while pursuing his primary calling to pastor. He never dreamed he would be called back to Pineville where he could pursue this calling at his Alma Mater.

Stewart earned his M.Div. from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, TX (2001). Desiring to equip himself as a pastor and professor, Stewart entered the Ph.D. program at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary where he majored in homiletics/preaching and minored in evangelism. He received his Ph.D. in 2008.

Since 1995, Stewart has served churches in Louisiana and Texas in the areas of youth, music, and the pastorate. Since 2008 he has been the pastor of First Baptist Church Pineville. Prior to coming to First Pineville, Stewart pastored Forestburg Baptist Church in Forestburg, TX.

Stewart has published dramatic pieces and worship plans in Let’s Worship. Two articles on two past masters in preaching, Hugh Latimer and Gilbert Tennent, have appeared in Preaching.

Stewart is married to Rebecca and they have one son, Zachary. Rebecca is a 1998 graduate from Louisiana College in the area of piano performance and a 2001 graduate of Southwestern Seminary where she earned a double Master’s in Christian education and marriage and family counseling.
